it feels like they are DESPERATELY trying to diversify the way they approach monetization instead of just quadrupling down on the core Street Fighter experience and trusting that their existing fanbase and an FGC that's reaching more people than ever will show up to make the game profitable. So the dev team added all this World Tour stuff to try to draw in new players, then added Create-a-Character so they could sell cosmetics, and all that carried it over into the online with the Battle Hub so they could unironically sell ad space to anyone they partner with for EVO/Capcom Cup/etc. looking at SF6, it really feels like someone told the dev team >listen, either find a way to make these games more profitable, or we've gotta cut them to work on more profitable projects. I wish literally any employee would be transparent about what's going on behind the scenes at Capcom. And it doesn't help that we know MK1 is coming out 3 months after SF6 in September now. 750k units moved every 6 months is gonna be tough. Especially coupled with that article where the Capcom President said he expects SF to sell 10M copies in 7 years because SFV sold 7M in that amount of time. So he certainly gives the impression that SF is on the chopping block. some of the devs at Capcom are still passionate about them, but if we don't show up to support SF6, that might be the end of Capcom fighting games for the foreseeable future, dood. fighting games are almost a leftover genre from the arcade era. they don't sell anywhere near as many copies as something like Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, or Devil May Cry 5. He's been warning his fanbase since shortly before SF6 was announced that >the new Street Fighter probably isn't going to look like anime >the new Street Fighter probably isn't going to have a large starting roster >the new Street Fighter is probably going to include a more beginner-friendly control schemeĪnd most importantly that >real talk? Capcom don't really *need* fighting games. If nothing else, this would be consistent with what Maximillian has been telling anyone who will tune in to listen for about a year and some change.
